What credentials can I earn at Workshops for Warriors?
All credentials are nationally recognized and accredited by the top Manufacturing Institutes in the Nation. Below are the credentials our students can earn:
The National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS) is the only ANSI-accredited developer of precision manufacturing skill standards and competency assessments in the nation. According to the Manufacturing Institute, NIMS has developed skill standards in 24 operational areas covering the breadth of metalworking operations, with 52 distinct skills credentials. NIMS credentials cover a range of machining specialties, including CNC programming and operation.
Mastercam, for the better part of thirty years, has been the market leader in CAD/CAM for both education and industry. Learning the most widely used CAD/CAM software in the world gives entrants to the workforce the ability to quickly find jobs they want, and having the skill set that employers are looking for gives prospective employees a competitive advantage in the marketplace. Mastercam provides that opportunity. Mastercam University is their training program.

American Welding Society (AWS) is the nation’s premier entity for welding certification and has a strong collection of certification documents on its website. They provide the industry standards for welding and joining of metal, plastics, and other materials through their own codes and qualification procedures.
Immerse2Learn online training solutions are used to develop core knowledge and fundamental skills by combining multimedia such as true simulation, animation, video, and audio with an easy-to-use Learning Management System (LMS) along with a Virtual Training Environment (VTE).
National Coalition of Certification Centers (NC3) develops, implements, and sustains industry recognized portable certifications built on national skills standards. The organization was established to address the need for strong partnerships between industry and educational institutions.
How do I enroll in the school?
The first step in the enrollment process is to complete our online application form which can be found here. Please choose your application based on your Veteran status.
I submitted an application, now what?
Once your application has been received, we will send you an email that will detail the next steps in our enrollment process. The email will have the subject line “Next Steps For Enrollment”. Ensure that you have read this email in its entirety, as there are several action items that you will need to complete.
What is the cost?
There are no enrollment or tuition costs for Veterans, Wounded Warriors, or Transitions Service Members. For our civilian students, the cost varies from $119 to $179 per class hour, depending on your chosen program.
We currently do not accept any VA educational benefits or Federal Student Loans. We are in year 7 of the 8-year waiting period to be approved to accept VA educational benefits and hope to be able to accept GI Bill, and other VA educational benefits by April 2019.
For all students, regardless of Veteran status, there will be an out of pocket expense for personal protective equipment, and books that will be used during the training. The cost for this equipment varies depending on your chosen program. Welding: ~cost $300, Machining: ~cost $50.
When will I know that will be attending?
Seat placement dates vary by semester. Seat placement for all prospective students occurs after we have received an Active Duty eligibility roster from MCCS. You will be notified via email whether you have been selected for the program or not within 3 weeks of the course start date.
Is orientation mandatory?
Yes, orientation is mandatory for all prospective students. At orientation, you will get to tour our facility, learn more about the school, have a one on one interview and receive any necessary paperwork. For Active Duty Service Members, arrangements can be made in extenuating circumstances at the Education Program Manager’s discretion.

How long is the program?
Each program at Workshops for Warriors is 16 weeks long. We have 3 semesters a year:
- Spring – Early Jan – Mid Apr
- Summer – Late Apr – Mid Aug
- Fall – Late Aug – Mid Dec
Can any Veteran, Wounded Warrior, or Transitioning Service Member be accepted into the Workshops for Warriors program?
Veterans, Wounded Warrior, and Transitioning Service Members can be enrolled if they meet the following requirements:
- Transitioning Service Members who are Navy or Marine Corps must go through MCCS for enrollment approval. MCCS will assist in getting no cost TAD orders issued from the command. Active Duty Service Members must have a minimum of 180 days left prior to separation.
- Veterans with an Honorable Discharge will receive preference for enrollment.
- Must be able to commit to attending classes at our San Diego location for the length of the program and at the times scheduled.
- Must sign a statement confirming that they understand our attendance policy. Three tardies equal one absence and five absences will result in an immediate dismissal from our program.
Do you offer training in 3D Printing?
We are currently working on adding an additive manufacturing curriculum to our Machining Program. While do not have an exact date, it will be part of our training program soon.
Do you guarantee employment after I’ve completed the program?
While we cannot guarantee employment for our students, we teach several professional and personal development workshops during the program that will put you on the right path. We also host a hiring event on our campus and invite companies from all over the Country to come and interview our students. Because of our commitment to our students, we have a 94% success rate in connecting our students to meaningful employment.
Is the school accredited?
Workshops for Warriors (WFW) is a State-licensed, board-governed, fully audited, 501(c)(3) nonprofit school founded in 2008. Workshops for Warriors is a private institution and is approved to operate by the Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education (BPPE). “Approved” means the school operates in compliance with state standards as set forth in Chapter 8, Part 59, Division 10, Title of the California Education Code. This institution is not accredited by an accrediting agency recognized by the United States Department of Education. These programs do not lead to licensure in California or other states. A student enrolled in an unaccredited institution is not eligible for federal financial aid.
Do you accept the GI Bill?
We are currently not accepting the GI Bill or any other VA educational benefits. The GI Bill application process is an 8-year process, and Workshops for Warriors is currently in year 7. This means that the Spring 2019 cohort of students will hopefully be able to use all VA educational benefits.
