Ambassadors

The purpose of the Workshops for Warriors’ Ambassador Program is to create an active and passionate community that can talk about our organization and can help activate other community members. Our ambassadors are volunteers committed to promoting Workshops for Warriors’ vision and representing the organization. Ambassadors take on an important role advocating on our behalf at conferences, meetings, and other events as well as their personal network.

Ambassadors may be asked to:

  • Give presentations when possible to interested audiences (if the ambassador is comfortable with public speaking)
  • Network/Advocate through their personal network
  • Actively promote Workshops for Warriors through online channels (Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn)
  • Suggest and actively seek out opportunities to promote Workshops for Warriors

Bill Lavelle

Bill is the former Director of Sales Development of Sandvik Coromant. He has successfully lead teams that developed and implemented plans to consolidate Sandvik Coromant’s global bandsaw & hole saw manufacturing into a “purpose built state of the art” production unit in the Sheffield England area.

He was one of the original pioneers that proposed, developed and implemented a standardized global Sandvik Leadership & Management training program.  While serving on Sandvik’s Leadership & Management training program Bill acted as a Senior Facilitator.

Jeff Metts

Jeff Metts is the President of Dowding Industries, a certified woman-owned manufacturing business and Astraeus Wind Energy, a manufacturer in Eaton Rapids, Michigan that specializes in heavy equipment, rail, automotive, and wind energy components. Jeff has worked for Dowding industries for over 17 years and is pioneering Michigan’s renewable energy frontier. In recognition of his dedication and role as an active leader, he was awarded the Business Leadership Award by the Great Lakes Renewable Energy Association.

John J. Petry

John has broad experience as an International Executive having lived and worked throughout the globe.  He specializes in leading organizations through significant change.  He has served in several interim leadership roles and currently serves as a directory on several company boards. He retired after serving 30+ years with Sandvik AB.

Paul Ingham

Paul has over 40 years in Sales and Sales Management.  He is one of the leading Sales Reps with Sandvik, becoming a key member of the team being asked to help develop the Sandvik Sellavision Course.  This course took the “best practices” of the best Sales Reps within the Sandvik Coromant organization  and combined these practices into videos and course material to teach other sales people how to recognize sales opportunities, handle objections, and close the sales.

Steve Short

Steve Short is currently the Regional Director, Machine Tool and Manufacturing Services, with DistributionNOW (DNOW), formerly President/ CEO of Updike Supply in Dayton, Ohio prior to the acquisition of Updike by DNOW in December 2015. Short is also President and co-founder of Deburring Technologies, LLC, the north American representative for Xebec Technologies, LTD, a past President of the Industrial Supply Association, and finally, formerly Vice Chair of the Divisional Board of Directors for the Industrial Supply Division of Affiliated Distributors (AD). Short was also the recipient of the 2012 AD Industrial Supply Division award for “Excellence in Leadership.”

How We Select Our Ambassadors

To be selected as a Workshops for Warriors ambassador, you must have demonstrated a talent for networking and promotion to the organization, played an active role in our social media and events, and have a history of financial support for our programs and students. Those with a strong network in either the San Diego, advanced manufacturing, or the military community are our strongest candidates.
